This review is from: Minding My Mitochondria 2nd Edition: How I overcame secondary progressive multiple sclerosis (MS) and got out of my wheelchair. (Paperback)

A year ago I watched Dr. Wahl’s TED talk, and it changed my life. Recently, I purchased this book. For those of you for whom understanding is key, this book will lay out for you exactly what is amiss with your health from a dietary standpoint, and why/how the diet promoted by the Wahl’s protocol is effective for healing. For the first time in 25 years, I have stable energy, virtually no fatigue, and am pain-free (no longer assisted by daily usage of morphine just to get out of bed). Though I found my dietary changes effective, I do wish I had read this book earlier. I have a better idea of how to tweak my diet for consistent health and healing, and I have better focus about how to formulate my eating plan. I had hesitated to exercise due to the fear of pain, especially now that I am not relying upon pain medication. After reading the book, I now understand why exercise and movement is essential to my healing.

After learning how and why you should eat for healing, Dr. Wahl’s provides recipes and sample menus as well as sources for some items. A daily log is available so that you can check off your target/required daily intake as you go. Especially helpful is the glossary – those medical terms are not common knowledge for many of us! You will be impressed by the more than 25-page reference list of supporting documentation (published medical research as annotated and referenced throughout the book).

It’s one thing for a doctor to tell someone what to do to correct their diet and health, but it’s another thing to see this doctor leading by example – the patient, doctor, and testimonial all in one. This diet is tried and true and has guidelines that will undoubtedly support health for everyone, not just those seeking specific healing action.

Please note, I do NOT have MS. I have a 25 year history of severe allergies, sinus infections, migraines, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue. I was medically discharged from my service as a Marine Corps officer, and am rated for disability by the Veteran’s Administration. After one full year of dietary change consistent with the Wahl’s Protocol, I continue to see additional changes marking my health. The whites of my eyes are fully white, no yellowing, red lines, etc. I have strong fingernails and healthy skin. I could go on and on, but you get the idea. Changes from the inside out – no creams, lotions, OTC or prescription “cures”, just good eating. Find out from Dr. Wahl’s book how you can heal and change your life – it’s easier than you think!

The ketosis diet is aaluclty another term for the low carb’ diet, but it’s often called the ketosis diet because individuals who switch from high carbohydrates to low carbohydrates often go through a process called ketosis. This is when the body releases ketones, which happens when the liver works to turn fats into fatty acids that can be used to provide energy to the body.
