This review is from: Minding My Mitochondria 2nd Edition: How I overcame secondary progressive multiple sclerosis (MS) and got out of my wheelchair. (Paperback)

I have multiple sclerosis and have good days and bad ones but now am dependent on a wheelchair. I was so lucky for so many years to not need one but since I have the progressive form things went downhill.

I have noticed changed in my deterioration depending on what I am eating, so I do believe that nutrition should be the first step in overcoming this terrible disease. Dr. Wahls is living proof that with the proper nutrients, one can go from a wheelchair to riding a bike long distances.

I am not going to follow the recommendation in this book to cook with lard or butter, due to watching my cholesterol count, but otherwise, everything about eating mostly plant based nutrition and only organic white meats is in line with what I have discovered on my own, as helping the most with my disease. Avoiding all sugar at all cost is the most important thing for me, as this book points out, and also finding the right supplements, in particular d-ribose, Same-e, potassium and magnesium, and fish oil, every single day.

I found this book inspiring and do not know where I could find the electrical stimulation for muscles she describes, but following this diet, in particular avoiding cow’s milk, has been a big help for me and is making me feel a lot more energetic.
